Spinal Decompression or Low Back Surgery?

drx9000 therapy san francisco, 94111
DRX9000 Lumbar Decompresion

We have been providing spinal decompression therapy in San Francisco for over 12 years.

One of more common reasons a herniated disc patient seeks spinal decompression is because they have been told they need low back surgery and they are looking for a less invasive option.

Spinal decompression machines are designed and built to treat lumbar disc bulges and herniations nonsurgically. Disc decompression also may help spinal stenosis, disc degeneration, and Facet Syndrome.

The treatment process is 100% natural. The protocol is for 20 one hour sessions over a six week period. You are on the machine for 30 minutes, then there is 10 minutes of muscle stimulation and 10 minutes of ice.  There is set-up time in between.

Most of the patients we treat have successful outcomes. For those that don’t they are still whole and able to pursue other treatment options, even surgery.

On the other hand…if you have back surgery and there is any kind of fusion, cement, wires or screws, you are permanently disqualified from ever trying spinal decompression.

Because of this it may make sense for you to try spinal decompression first.

Sure, if decompression fails to deliver you will be out some time and money, but at least you will know.

And the other thing is…not all spinal decompression treatment is the same. Just because a doctor has a spinal decompression machine does not mean they know how to use it. When it comes to spinal decompression therapy for disc herniations EXPERIENCE matters.

To find out if you are a candidate for spinal decompression in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation.

Treatment for a Bulging Lumbar Disc in San Francisco

herniated disc treatment in San Francisco
Pinched Lumbar Nerve Causing Sciatica

We have been providing treatment for herniated and bulging lumbar discs in San Francisco for over 23 years.

The spinal discs, which are the ligamentous pads in between the bones have tow primary components:

1. The Nucleus Pulposus, which is the gelatinous center part of the disc that helps give the spine it’s flexibility.

2. The Annulus Fibrosis, which are the strong fibrous circular rings that help contain the nucleus and attach the disc to the vertebrae.

The spinal discs are very strong and can handle tremendous amounts of stress. However, like anything, there are limits. When the annular fibers weaken and give way to the nucleus, which then puts pressure on the delicate spinal cord or nerve roots, we call this a disc bulge or herniation. There are various names for the particular type of bulge or herniation depending on the nature and severity of the problem.

The spinal discs are living tissue so they are also subject to the overall health and integrity of the internal environment, which is for the most part a reflection of the patients lifestyle.

So, for various reasons, many that are unknown (trauma, lifestyle and cumulative physical stress), and some that are unknown, the spinal discs breakdown and bulge or herniate. Typically, the disc will bulge before it herniates in degenerative conditions that develop over time.

Of special note is the fact that much of the population has a bulging or herniated disc and has no symptoms. That’s right…it’s possible to have this and not even know it. Not all cervical or lumbar disc bulges or herniations cause pain and/or dysfunction.

Over the past 23 years, we have helped tens of thousands of patients with herniated and bulging lumbar spinal discs. Our results have been outstanding.

We use a combination of chiropractic, spinal decompression, and physical therapy. We also have medical doctors if needed to help co-manage difficult cases.

A herniated or bulging disc in the lumbar spine can cause low back pain, sciatica or leg pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, and even night pain. There is usually associated muscle spasm, swelling, and loss of motion.

If you have been diagnosed with a herniated disc (usually by MRI) or suspect you may have one, we would like to meet with you.

To find out if you are a candidate for bulging disc treatment in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225. Mention this article for a complimentary consultation.

Spinal Decompression Maintenance Care

drx9000 in san francisco
Spinal Decompression Therapy with DRX9000

We have been providing spinal decompression therapy in downtown San Francisco for over 10 years now.

Over the past 10 years or so we have helped thousands of herniated cervical and lumbar disc patients return to more active lifestyles with the DRX9000. Many have been able to avoid back or neck surgery as well.

Sure, there are always some that do not respond favorably to decompression therapy but they are the minority. What typically happens is that patients end up a lot better than they were and are glad they did the treatment. Some have a complete resolution of symptoms.

As we near the end of the spinal decompression protocol, which is typically around 20 sessions performed over a 6-8 week period, we discuss with the patient the option of continuing on with some sort of ongoing maintenance plan. About 50% choose to do so.

Is DRX9000 spinal decompression maintenance necessary? In some cases YES, in other cases we just don’t know. When we just don’t know, we recommend that our patients listen to their body and call for a decompression session “as needed”. This seems to work very well.

Some patients never need the decompression machine again and choose to keep their spine healthy with chiropractic, exercise, stretching, Yoga or Pilates.

So, if we feel you need cervical or lumbar spinal decompression maintenance care, we will tell you. If not, we will teach you how to take care of your new back or neck so that the results last.

The conditions that respond best to cervical or lumbar spinal decompression therapy are bulging or herniated disc in the neck or low back. Degenerative disc disease, Spinal Stenosis, Facet Syndrome, and Failed Back Surgery cases also respond well.

Not all patients can qualify medically for decompression therapy. The best thing to do is research online, find a spinal decompression doctor near you with lots of experience (this matters most) and make an appointment to find out if you are a good candidate.

If you live or work near the San Francisco Financial District, or have the ability to stay for a month or two, you can see us.

To schedule an appointment at our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center please call 415-392-2225.

Spinal Decompression or Back Surgery for a Herniated Disc?

drx9000 in san francisco
Spinal Decompression Therapy with DRX9000

We have been providing spinal decompression therapy in San Francisco for over 10 years now.

Many herniated disc patients are told they need back surgery. Maybe they do, maybe they don’t. How do they know for sure?

Well, welcome to the life of a spinal decompression doctor. This is what we are dealing with every day. I would like to give you my take on the situation.

In my opinion, a herniated disc patient should NOT rush to have back surgery. Because once they do, in many cases, the will be permanently disqualified from ever trying nonsurgical spinal decompression.

In addition, many herniated discs will repair naturally in time. In fact, they say that more people than not are actually walking around with bulging and herniated discs and do not even know they have them…and never will. Not all patients with a herniated disc in the low back experience low back pain or sciatica.

That’s right, the majority of lumbar disc herniations do not even cause symptoms.

But in certain cases, the disc is herniated in such a way that the body is unable to re-position it naturally or heal it such that it does not interfere with a person’s life. In situations like this conservative chiropractic care can be very effective.

There is however a subset of all herniated and bulging disc patients that do not respond to chiropractic, drugs, cortisone, physical therapy or anything for that matter. Some of these patients are suffering daily with sever low back pain and sciatica. many are unable to sleep and end up taking various kinds of medications day in and day out. Life is miserable.

These are the type of back pain patients that have a tendency to want to have surgery…they will try anything. In my clinical experience this type of patient represents about 10-15% of all herniated disc patients and is still a lot of people.

These are the perfect candidates for spinal decompression. The machine we use is the DRX9000 but there are many fine decompression systems out there.

Unless it is a medical emergency (rare) or you are disqualified from decompression therapy (rare), I recommend a course of spinal decompression to see if a patient will respond. Disc decompression is very safe and gentle. It takes about 6 weeks (20 sessions) to work through the protocol and make a determination if the treatment was successful.

If the DRX9000 does not achieve a favorable outcome and desired result you are still whole and able to pursue all other treatment options including back surgery.

If you have a spinal fusion you can never try decompression. So, why not try decompression first?

So there you go…that’s my 2 cents for what it’s worth. I have helped hundreds of herniated disc patients avoid surgery…the next one could be YOU!

To find out if you are a candidate for spinal decompression in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation.

Spinal Decompression in San Francisco For Disc Herniation

drx9000 in san francisco
Spinal Decompression Therapy with DRX9000

We have been providing Spinal Decompression in San Francisco for over 10 years now.

Most of the herniated or bulging disc patients that undergo spinal decompression therapy at our Financial District clinic have had previous chiropractic care. While chiropractic achieves favorable outcomes most of the time with herniated discs…sometimes it just can’t deliver.

The reason for this is that the herniated disc has positioned itself in such a way that it does not respond to the chiropractic adjustments or anything else for that matter. In fact, many are told that the only option is back surgery.

It is for this reason that spinal decompression machines such as the DRX9000 were invented.

Spinal decompression machines are designed and built to treat herniated and bulging discs non-surgically. They do this by enlarging the disc space and creating a negative pressure that pulls the herniated disc fragments back to the center of the disc where they belong…away from the delicate nerve roots and spinal cord.

Spinal decompression systems also elongate the spine which stretches the spinal muscles, ligaments and tendons, breaking up scar tissue formation and muscle spasms, which helps to restore lost motion and function. As motion is restored the injured spinal disc is able to regain lost water content which expands the disc creating a more normal separation between the vertebrae above and the one below. This gives the exiting nerve more room.

And of course, patients also feel better. You can get sore at first, but over time pain levels subside.

Some patients report a complete recovery, some very little, and everything in between. But the overwhelming majority of patients that we treat with the DRX9000 for lumbar or cervical disc herniations are glad they did the treatment..

The treatment process is for 20 sessions over 6 weeks. The sessions are one hour long and we reserve the machine for you. It seems like a lot but it goes by quick. And for the most part patients enjoy being on the machine…many fall asleep during the treatment.

At the end of the treatment you may be able resume chiropractic care. While adjustments did not work before the treatment, they will most likely make sense now with your healthier spine.

Sounds pretty good Huh? Well it is!

Spinal Decompression and L5-S1 Disc Herniation

drx9000 in san francisco
Spinal Decompression Therapy with DRX9000

We have been providing spinal decompression in San Francisco for over 10 years.

The most common disc to herniate in the lumbar spine is the L5-S1 Disc. The L5-S1 disc is the very last disc in the spine and is positioned between the L5 lumbar vertebrae and the Sacrum in the L5-S1 disc space.

The reason this disc is more prone to disc bulges and herniation is because it takes on more stress than the other spinal discs because it is the last one at the base of the spine.

Because of this,  the majority of the patients we treat with spinal decompression therapy have L5-S1 disc herniations.

For the most part, a disc herniation will develop slowly over time as part of a degenerative process that will include the surrounding bone and ligaments. The disc will lose height, water content and flexibility.

As this process unfolds the outer containment walls of the disc give way to the gelatinous center of the disc which pushes out onto the nerves and spinal cord resulting in pain and dysfunction. Sometimes sciatica develops, which is pain in the leg/s.

In any case, spinal decompression is often able to achieve favorable outcomes even in the worst of cases. A favorable outcome can be anything from avoiding surgery to a complete resolution of the problem. In rare cases disc decompression does nothing to help. Just know…this is the exception and not the rule.

If you have been diagnosed with an L5-Si lumbar disc herniation or any other kind of herniation, disc bulge, degenerative disc disease, or facet syndrome…you may be a candidate for disc decompression with the DRX9000.

Spinal Decompression and Failed Back Surgery

decompression therapy san francisco
Lumbar decompression with the DRX9000

We have been providing spinal decompression therapy in San Francisco for over 10 years now. During this time we have helped thousands of herniated discs patients return to more normal lives. We have also assisted in preventing hundreds of low back surgeries.

Every now and then a patient that has had previous back surgery presents for spinal decompression treatment. They had the back surgery and either the symptoms got worse or did not improve…or did not improve much.

Unfortunately, if the back surgery was a spinal fusion, there is nothing we can do. Patients with spinal fusion surgeries are permanently disqualified from spinal decompression.

If the surgery was a discectomy, then there is hope. In fact, we have helped dozens of patients over the past 10 years with spinal decompression that have had failed discectomy back surgery.

This is good news for those who may have been told they have no other treatment options for their chronic low back pain or sciatica.

Sure, we may do the treatment and it does not help…but that is not likely.

And the decompression therapy is very safe and gentle.

We also have a team of medical doctors and physical therapists that can participate in the treatment process, increasing the odds of a favorable outcome.

So, yes…if you have failed surgery you still may be a candidate for spinal decompression on the DRX9000.

To find out if you qualify medically please call 415-392-2225 and make an appointment with one of our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Doctors. Ask for a complimentary consultation.

Spinal Decompression Maintenance Care

drx9000 in san francisco
Spinal Decompression Therapy with DRX9000

We have been providing spinal decompression in San Francisco for around 10 years now. The machine we use is the DRX9000. Prior to this, patients that did not respond favorably to chiropractic care were referred for surgical consultation.

Over the past 10 years we have helped thousands of herniated disc patients return to more normal lives and prevent back surgery.

About half of our spinal decompression patients continue on with maintenance care. They do this because they are happy with the results and wish to maintain them. The frequency of maintenance care varies from once every 3 months to around once per month in advanced cases.

Your spinal decompression doctor will usually have a good idea of what you need from how you respond to the initial intensive care, which is 20 visits over a 6 week period.

As far as what to expect from decompression therapy…some report a complete resolution of their low back pain or sciatica. A small minority report no change at all. And everyone else reports they are much better than they were and glad they did the treatment.

Sure, some patients do not respond to decompression…it’s just the way it is. But you know what? They are still whole and can pursue other treatment options.

If you have surgery you may be disqualified from decompression…so why not try spinal decompression first?

To find out if you are a candidate for spinal decompression in San Francisco call 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation.

Can Spinal Decompression Make My Sciatica Worse?

drx9000 in san francisco
Spinal Decompression Therapy with DRX9000

We have been providing sciatica treatment in San Francisco for over 22 years now in the Financial District.

Sciatica or leg pain is mostly caused by pinched nerves in the low back. Pinched nerves are usually the result of bulging or herniated lumbar discs secondary to spinal degeneration and ongoing misalignment’s and abnormal wear and tear.

The symptom of sciatica, and sciatica is a symptom not a cause, is usually the last thing to occur in the degenerative process, not the first. What this means is that when a patient presents with sciatica they have usually had a problem that has been developing for a long time vs. something that is new.

Once a patient has an MRI and the source of the sciatica is located and quantified (spinal disc level of bulging or herniated disc) we will begin spinal disc decompression per the manufacturers protocols superimposed with common sense and our clinic experience.

The bottom line is this: YES, it is possible for your sciatica to feel worse before it feels better.

Just like many healing or cleansing processes, there are often toxins and inflammation that have been in place for an extended time. Plus, even though the the injured spinal discs are not where they belong, they have become used to being there. When we begin the process of restoring normal position and function the body fights it and there can be an increase in symptoms. Fortunately this is usually temporary, but can go on for several weeks or more.

Sure, spinal disc decompression does not help every single person that does it, but soreness in the beginning is not an indicator of eventual results. Listen to you doctor who will most likely have specific home care recommendations to support your care. And hang in there and let the treatment unfold. In the end…chances are, you will be glad you did 🙂

To schedule an appointment for sciatica treatment in San Francisco call 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation.
