Numbness in the Hand?

hand pain and numbness in SF
Hand Pain and Numbness Treatment in San Francisco

We have been providing treatment for hand  pain and numbness in San Francisco since 1992.

Hand pain and numbness is fairly common  with people that spend the majority of their day in front of a computer.  Unfortunately, many are misdiagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) or wrist sprains when the actual problem  is in the neck.

That’s right, the primary cause of wrist pain, numbness, tingling and weakness in office workers is pressure on the nerves in the neck and not carpal tunnel syndrome.

The nerves that exit from in between the bones in the neck, travel down the arms and into the hands. Pressure on these nerves as they exit the spine from tight muscles, bulging discs, herniated discs, misaligned vertebrae, facet syndrome,  or disc and spine degeneration is much more likely than CTS (which is rare).

This is good new because it is much more easier to treat most of the above than it is true CTS.

Traditional chiropractic care is very effective for neck, arm and hand pain.  Massage, stretching and exercise, and even deep tissue laser can also help accelerate healing.

In the event chiropractic care fails to deliver a favorable outcome, we have cervical decompression with the DRX9000c spinal decompression system.

Herniated and bulging discs can be difficult to treat in some cases and the DRX9000c is very safe, gentle and effective.

Often times a combination of chiropractic and spinal decompression makes the most sense.

So…if you have been suffering with numbness in the hands or pain in the hands, weakness, tingling or neck pain, we would like to meet with you to discuss your treatment options.

To find out if you are a candidate for treatment at our San Francisco Chiropractic and Spinal Decompression Clinic please call 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation.

Spinal Decompression and Physical Therapy

Spinal Decompression Therapy with DRX9000

We have been providing spinal decompression treatment in San Francisco for over 11 years now in the Financial District.

Recently, we were acquired by Chiro-Medical Group, Inc. of San Francisco (CMG). The clinic has been re-named from Executive Express Chiropractic to Chiro-Medical Express (CMGE).

This now gives us the ability to offer a wider range of services to our spinal decompression patients than we could before.  CME is only a few blocks away from CMGE, which is located at the landmark Embarcadero Center (validated parking).

CME has one of the largest and most technologically advanced physical therapy depts. in San Francisco and also has world class medical doctors that specialize in Physical Medicine.

So, what this means is that our san Francisco spinal decompression patients now have access to CME and all it has to offer. We are now able to treat very advanced cases of lumbar and cervical disc herniations and bulges that require extensive post decompression rehabilitation.

Sure, most of our herniated disc patients will not need this…but some will, and we can now take care of them in house. This makes for a much more cohesive treatment and the outcomes so far have been outstanding.

Some of the condition we are able to treat with our DRX9000 spinal decompression system are as follows:

  • Lumbar and cervical disc herniations and bulges
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Facet Syndrome

If you have been diagnosed with any of these conditions and are interested in finding out more about our San Francisco Spinal Decompression program. please call 415-392-2225 and ask for a complimentary consultation.

What Does Spinal Decompression Costs?

We have been providing treatment for bulging and herniated discs in San Francisco for 23 years now.

About 10 years ago, after considerable research, we decided to add nonsurgical spinal decompression to our clinic so that we could better treat these conditions. The results have been outstanding.   The machine we use is the DRX9000. The protocol for spinal decompression is 20 one hour sessions over 6-8 weeks. We were the first to offer spinal decompression with the DRX9000 in San Francisco and our cost at that time was $6000-$10,000 depending on the severity of the condition,  level of treatment and adjunctive therapies involved.

DRX9000 Lumbar Decompresion

That was then and this is now. Now there are many more spinal decompression machines and the machines costs less…so the price has come down. Our prices these days for lumbar or cervical spinal disc decompression is $3500-$6000 depending on what you need. Quite a bit cheaper. Plus, we are much better at it…it’s an art. Over the past 10 years we have performed tens of thousands of spinal decompression sessions on thousands of patients. We are pretty good at this…and experience matters! Some of the conditions we treat are lumbar and cervical disc herniations, disc bulges, spinal stenosis, disc degeneration, and facet syndrome. The most common symptoms associated with these conditions are low back pain, sciatica, leg pain, numbness, tingling, burning, aching, neck pain, arm pain, weakness, night pain. There has never been a better time to consider spinal decompression therapy. We reserve the machine for your appointments so there is no waiting, and we validate your parking at the Embarcadero Center. It’s super easy and efficient.

To find out if you are a candidate for care at our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center please call 415-392-2225 and ask for a complimentary consultation.

Do Spinal Decompression Results Last?

decompression therapy san francisco
Lumbar decompression with the DRX9000

We have been providing treatment for herniated discs in San Francisco for over 22 years now.

About 10 years ago we began to incorporate spinal decompression therapy into our herniated disc treatment protocols. The machine we use is the DRX9000.

The DRX9000 is designed and built to treat herniated and bulging lumbar discs naturally. We also have a DRX9000c cervical decompression system. This enables us to treat herniated discs in the neck.

Over the past 10 years we have treated thousands of patients with spinal decompression. Many were scheduled for back or neck  surgery. We are proud to say that the results during this time have been outstanding. Most of the time we are able to achieve favorable outcomes and about half of our decompression patients continue on with some sort of maintenance program.

So…Do spinal decompression results last?

For the most part YES! As long as you do not return back do the unhealthy lifestyle habits that caused the condition to develop in the first place. Most herniated discs develop over time. Some are traumatic or due to sports or auto injuries, but the majority are because of things like poor posture or ergonomics, obesity, stress, bad shoes, poor sleeping habits, etc. Things you have control over.

Once the spine becomes damaged and misaligned it starts to cause abnormal wear and tear on the spinal disc, which can then lead to disc bulging and herniation.

The DRX9000 re-positions the disc, enlarges the disc space, re-hydrates the disc, strengthens the spinal ligaments and muscles, and elongates the spine. Typically the results are permanent, but many that lead active lifestyles wish to be proactive and have a decompression session here and there to help ensure things stay where they are. This is optional and totally up to the patient. Maintenance care visit frequencies range between 4-12 sessions per year.

To find out if you are a candidate for spinal decompression in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation.

Hand Pain and Herniated Disc in The Neck

herniated disc treatment san francisco
Is it Really CTS?

We have been providing treatment for hand pain in San Francisco for over 22 years now.

Hand pain is very common in people that spend the majority of their day sitting at a desk in front of a computer…like most of our patients.

When it comes to hand pain treatment the source of the pain is not always in the hand. In fact, more often than not the source of the arm or hand pain is from pinched nerves in the neck. That’s right, pinched nerves in the neck can cause the same type of hand pain that pinched nerves in the hand or wrist can cause (carpal tunnel syndrome).

This is why it’s so important for a doctor to examine the neck to the finger tips when a patient presents with carpal tunnel symptoms such as hand pain.

The primary cause of pinched nerves in the neck is a herniated or bulging cervical disc.

Chiropractors have great success treating pinched nerves in the neck with adjustments, massage, exercise and other non-invasive treatments such as deep tissue laser and Active Release Techniques (ART).

In the unlikely event that chiropractic fails to deliver desired results for hand pain due to a herniated disc, then nonsurgical cervical decompression is considered for the neck.

At our clinic we will often incorporate cervical decompression with the DRX9000c and chiropractic adjustments. This can work extremely well.

We also have a medical team and physical therapy team for difficult cases.

So, if you are suffering with neck, arm, shoulder, elbow, or hand pain, you should probably visit a chiropractor that has expertise in CTS treatment and repetitive stress injuries. And if they have a cervical spinal decompression machine that’s even better.

To find out if you are a candidate for hand pain treatment in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225. Mention this blog post for a complimentary consultation.

Spinal Decompression Maintenance Care

drx9000 in san francisco
Spinal Decompression Therapy with DRX9000

We have been providing spinal decompression therapy in downtown San Francisco for over 10 years now.

Over the past 10 years or so we have helped thousands of herniated cervical and lumbar disc patients return to more active lifestyles with the DRX9000. Many have been able to avoid back or neck surgery as well.

Sure, there are always some that do not respond favorably to decompression therapy but they are the minority. What typically happens is that patients end up a lot better than they were and are glad they did the treatment. Some have a complete resolution of symptoms.

As we near the end of the spinal decompression protocol, which is typically around 20 sessions performed over a 6-8 week period, we discuss with the patient the option of continuing on with some sort of ongoing maintenance plan. About 50% choose to do so.

Is DRX9000 spinal decompression maintenance necessary? In some cases YES, in other cases we just don’t know. When we just don’t know, we recommend that our patients listen to their body and call for a decompression session “as needed”. This seems to work very well.

Some patients never need the decompression machine again and choose to keep their spine healthy with chiropractic, exercise, stretching, Yoga or Pilates.

So, if we feel you need cervical or lumbar spinal decompression maintenance care, we will tell you. If not, we will teach you how to take care of your new back or neck so that the results last.

The conditions that respond best to cervical or lumbar spinal decompression therapy are bulging or herniated disc in the neck or low back. Degenerative disc disease, Spinal Stenosis, Facet Syndrome, and Failed Back Surgery cases also respond well.

Not all patients can qualify medically for decompression therapy. The best thing to do is research online, find a spinal decompression doctor near you with lots of experience (this matters most) and make an appointment to find out if you are a good candidate.

If you live or work near the San Francisco Financial District, or have the ability to stay for a month or two, you can see us.

To schedule an appointment at our San Francisco Spinal Decompression Center please call 415-392-2225.

Cervical Spinal Decompression in San Francisco

drx9000c san francisco
DRX9000c Cervical Decompression

The cervical disc decompression machine we own and operate is the DRX9000c. The DRX9000c is fully computerized and has a built-in biofeedback mechanism that senses the herniated disc patient’s response to the treatment and makes adjustments accordingly.

The cervical decompression system is able to target a specific spinal disc in the neck, such as the C5/6 disc because the computer adjusts the angle of pull according to which disc in the neck is being treated.

Many chiropractors, physical therapists, and medical doctors claim to offer spinal decompression, but it is nothing more than a glorified traction machine. Our spinal decompression system which includes the DRX9000 (lumbar machine) and the DRX9000c (cervical machine) costs over $150,000.

So make sure you do your homework.

In addition, just because a chiropractor or medical clinic has a DRX9000 or DRX9000c, it does not mean they know what to do with it. It takes years of clinical experience and operation to learn how to incorporate it into an overall lumbar and cervical disc herniation repair strategy and protocol.

We have performed over 12,000 decompression sessions on thousands of patients. In fact, we were the first to offer the DRX9000c to San Francisco.

So there you go…if you have been diagnosed with a herniated or bulging disc in the neck or feel you may have one and do not want surgery, you may be a candidate for nonsurgical spinal decompression to the cervical spine with the DRX9000c.

To find out if you are a candidate for cervical spinal decompression in San Francisco please call 415-392-2225 and ask for a complimentary consultation.

PS: We also offer physical therapy and medical case management at our sister clinic Chiro-Medical Group, Inc. a few blocks away.

Neck and Shoulder Pain?

drx9000c san francisco
DRX9000c Cervical Decompression

We have been providing nonsurgical treatment for neck and shoulder pain in San Francisco for over 20 years in the Financial District.

If you are experiencing neck, shoulder or arm pain you may have a “pinched nerve” from a herniated or bulging disc in the neck. There are other causes as well such as misaligned vertebrae, muscle spasms, degenerative disc disease or spinal stenosis.

Chiropractic care is probably your best bet for a pinched nerve in the neck. If chiropractic fails to deliver results there is always nonsurgical cervical decompression with the DRX9000c.

Cervical decompression systems like the DRX9000c are designed and built to treat cervical disc herniations and bulges naturally. They do this be enlarging the disc space, elongating the spine, and strengthening the spinal muscles ligaments and tendons.

A typical course of treatment is 20 sessions over a 6-8 week period. The sessions are an hour long. Treatment cost is approx $3500 depending on what level of service is required.

Success rates are high if your case is accepted.

To find out if you are a candidate for neck and shoulder pain treatment in San Francisco call 415-392-2225. Ask for a complimentary consultation.

Arm Pain Causes and Cures

Arm Pain treatment san francisco
The Neck and Arm Pain Connection

We have been providing natural solutions for neck, arm and hand pain in San Francisco for over 20 years in the Financial District.

Arm Pain has many causes from repetitive strain injuries (RSI) to herniated and bulging discs in the neck. If you are someone that spends the majority of your day at a desk in front of a computer (like most of our patients) yo are prone to abnormal wear and tear on the cervical spine (neck), shoulders, arms and hands.

If you have poor posture. either from hereditary predisposition or acquired from poor sleeping habits, ergonomics or injury, you are prone to disc bulges and disc herniations which can lead to pinched nerves in the neck. Pinched nerves in the neck is a primary cause of arm pain.

Arm pain usually presents with either hand pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, numbness in the hands, weakness of grip, or night pain. Arm pain can also present as a stand alone symptom.

The cures for arm pain vary depending on the cause. One thing you should know. Rarely is the cause a “Motrin” deficiency.  When you take a pain killer for arm pain or any type of pain, all you are doing is masking the problem. Pain is a symptom not a condition.

Chiropractic is probably your best bet for arm pain. A chiropractor can examine you to uncover the cause of the arm pain and provide drug-less, nonsurgical solutions on the spot like chiropractic adjustments, massage, ice, and deep tissue laser therapy.

If your arm pain is from a herniated or bulging disc in the neck, then a chiropractor may use nonsurgical spinal decompression to the cervical spine. The machine we use is the DRX9000c. Spinal decompression machines are designed and built to treat disc bulges, herniations and spinal stenosis naturally.

If you have arm pain and would like to find out if you are a candidate for care please call 415-392-2225 and ask for a complimentary consultation. Go here for more info on arm pain treatment in San Francisco.

Neck Pain: Where Does It Come From?

neck pain san francisco
Neck Pain Treatment

Neck pain can arise from a number of different tissues in the neck. Quite often, pain is generated from the small joints in the back of the vertebra (called facets). Pain can also arise from disk related conditions where the liquid-like center part of the disk works its way out through cracks and tears in the thicker outer part of the disk and can press on nerves producing numbness and/or weakness in the arm. It is possible to “sprain” the neck in car accidents, sports injuries, or from slips and falls. This is where ligaments tear and lose their stability resulting in excessive sliding back and forth of the vertebrae during neck movements. When muscles or their tendon attachments to bone are injured, these injuries are called “strains” and pain can occur wherever the muscle is torn. There is also referred pain. Here, the injury is at a distance away from where the pain is felt. A classic referred pain pattern is shoulder blade pain when a disk in the neck herniates. Let’s take a closer look at two conditions we often diagnose and treat as chiropractors:

Spinal Stenosis: This occurs when the canals in the spine narrow to the point of pinching the spinal cord in the trefoil shaped central canal (called “central stenosis”) or when the nerve roots get pinched in the lateral recesses (called lateral recess stenosis). This can occur from arthritis in the facet joints, disk bulging or herniations, thickening of ligaments, shifting of one vertebra over another, aging, heredity (being born with a narrowed canal), and/or from tumors. Usually, combinations of several of the above occur simultaneously. When this is present in the neck, it can be more serious compared to stenosis in the low back as the spinal cord ends at the upper part of the low back (T12 level) so only the nerves get pinched. Stenosis in the neck however pinches the spinal cord itself. Symptoms can include pain in one or both arms, but it’s more dangerous when leg pain, numbness, or weakness occur (called myelopathy). Rarely, loss of bowel or bladder control can occur which is then considered a “medical emergency” and requires prompt surgery.

Cervical Disk Herniation: As previously stated, the liquid-like center of the disk can work its way through cracks and tears in the outer layer of the disk and press on a nerve resulting in numbness, pain, and/or weakness in the arm. The classic presentation is the patient finding relief by holding the arm over the head, as this puts slack in the nerve and it hurts less in this position. The position of the head also makes a difference as looking up usually hurts more and can increase the arm pain/numbness while looking down reduces the symptoms. We will carefully test your upper extremity neurological functions (reflexes, muscle strength, and sensation as each nerve performs a different function in the arm), and we can tell you which nerve is pinched after a careful examination. This condition can lead to surgery so please take this seriously.

The good news is that chiropractic care can manage both spinal stenosis and cervical disk herniations BEFORE they reach the point of requiring surgery. So, make chiropractic your FIRST choice when neck pain occurs!

In the event that conservative chiropractic care fails to deliver a favorable outcome, you should consider nonsurgical spinal decompression with the DRX9000c.
